Tunnel House Inn, Coates
Muddy says: A country pub with a twist, this inn used to be the hangout of Prince William and Harry, and has style and atmosphere in spades. And the food is pretty special too!
A rare bird, the Tunnel House Inn practically sits on the Bathurst Estate (you can walk through the grounds from the gardens), with a canal walk that takes you to the source of the Thames. So walkers, fill your boots! But if you prefer your pleasure sedentary, the pub is so cosy it’s like a warm embrace with a fabulous open fire and squashy sofas to sink into. Or if it’s warm, the gardens have one of the best views ever looking across prime Cotswold countryside. It was a favourite of Prince William and Harry at one time and has a kind of relaxed, studenty vibe that will make you want to hang out there all day. And you won’t go hungry if you do, as the food is some of the best in the area. The steaks are to die for!
If you’re looking for a venue, there’s a fab function barn that is perfect weddings and parties, and you can make as much noise as you want as there are no neighbours for miles!
