The Bull at Hinton
Muddy says: You know how we just love stumbling across a gem of a pub and wondering, where have you been all my life? Yep, we’ve done it again!
A big Muddy tick goes to The Bull at Hinton, a proper ‘pub’ pub – family friendly, dog friendly, a fab play area for kids, and really, really great grub. The building is handsome and traditional – ancient stone that dates back to the 17th century, formerly an inn, a farm and a dairy (and apparently it has its fair share of ghosts!).
But it is the food that stands out here – think traditional pub food, the best it can be, and great value for money. Produce is local as much as possible, they use their own home grown seasonal fruit, herbs and vegetables from their allotment, and it’s all cooked with an obvious passion.
Meat comes from Barlett and Sons of Bath and Bristol Meat Trader, both dealing in locally sourced, farm assured meats ensuring their products are of the best quality. All of their meat is prepared using traditional butcher methods and they mature their beef for over 21 days to ensure the most tender and succulent steak possible. They also make their own bangers so they are tip top too. Fish comes from Wing of St. Mawes, a small family run company who source mussels, cod, scallops, plaice, sole, prawns and lobsters for The Bull, delivering fish caught that very morning. Oh, and their eggs are from their own hens in the garden!
Our personal faves are the Crispy Pork Belly Bites and Superfood Salad for starters, followed by Fried Potato Gnocchi in a creamy pesto sauce, or West Country Steaks with Roasted Tomato, and Double Cooked Chips. Yum, yum, yum!
