Grace White: My hot yoga journey
In 2010 my friend asked me to join her for a hot yoga class. I politely refused; I’d done yoga once when I was pregnant and fell asleep, so I knew that this wasn’t for me. But she persisted, telling me that it wasn’t like normal yoga. The classes are performed in temperatures that are as high as 39 degrees, with eco-friendly, infrared heat pads. My interest was piqued, but it still sounded horrible: like normal yoga, but with sweaty bodies all over the place. But she wouldn’t let it go, explaining that it creates a kind of heat chamber, making it a mentally challenging workout, which leaves you with a feeling of achievement. Apparently, the principle behind the heat is that warm muscles stretch further with a reduced risk of injury, and as you sweat, your body releases toxins. While your body fights to stay cool, your pulse rate increases, resulting in more calories being burnt. Heat also causes your capillaries to dilate, which allows oxygen to be more effectively and evenly distributed to tissues, muscle glands, and organs, to help remove more toxins from the body. Most physical and mental health conditions can be eased with hot yoga.I was finally sold. After 5 years of researching the health benefits from hot yoga, Grace Lounge Hot Yoga was born in 2016. I want to share healthy and wellbeing with as many people as possible.
Grace, baby, you rock!
