Cotswold Discovery Trail

Muddy says: We love this really cool new way to get out and about, exploring the Cotswolds

We’ve just discovered the amazing Cotswold Discovery Trail, a really cool new way to explore the Cotswolds. Whether you want to walk with friends, family or kids, you’ll get a gorgeous map, plus 2 day-long trails (one in the north Cotswolds and one in the south) for you to follow by car and explore on foot. The maps are designed as treasure trails, with loads of information to uncover and clues to answer on your journey, so they’re loads of fun.

Got Mudlets? The pack also includes The Kids Cotswolds Challenge, designed for families with younger children, with pictures of lots of classic Cotswold features which they have to spot on the way round and mark on their own map.

The idea for The Cotswold Discovery Trail was born long ago deep in the childhood of keen walker and explorer Daniel, who used to go out with his friends on treasure trails armed with a “Trail Pack” full of questions, a team out on a mission exploring and discovering the Cotswolds. And then the idea came – why not create a great version of that, appealing to adults and children alike, locals and tourists, easily accessible across the region and open to do all year round. And so, The Cotswold Discovery Trail was born, and all the hard work has been done for you!

.

The map is the centre piece of your Trail Pack and it also includes activities for younger children, the Local Logo Challenge, a compass, car stickers, pens, paper and a welcome letter to ensure you are setting off ready and in the right direction. The Trails are designed to be a day long each, and are loops with multiple start points for you to choose from. The total drive time is between 2-3 hours, and the rest you explore  on foot.

Obviously here at Muddy we have to try and test everything for ourselves (well, it wouldn’t be much fun stuck in the office, would it?) and we can tell you that this is a GREAT day out. We discovered loads of hidden gems we never knew were there, and the kids had a fab day out finding the hidden secrets and solving the clues. We saw Roman amphitheatres, Iron Age forts, Stone Age burial mounds and Georgian towers, amongst a much-needed pub or two, of course.
