Coach House Tutors
Muddy says: A happy, homely tutoring service where kids are taught how to prepare for the 11+ and Common Entrance in a safe, stress-free environment. Sounds like just the ticket!
Former teachers and experts at shepherding children through the 11+ entrance exam, Ros Smith and Claire Audritt of Coach House Tutors have decades of experience between them. They offer a happy, homely and safe environment for children to learn in a stress-free environment because they believe a relaxed atmosphere is essential for a child to achieve their best.
It’s a daunting exam but Ros and Claire pace the learning brilliantly with just half-hour sessions per week and just enough homework so the child learns but doesn’t become overwhelmed. Through the lessons they build up confidence and concentration levels, expand vocabulary and encourage accuracy with times tables. The class work and homework are of similar difficulty to the actual tests and they cover all the question types the children are likely to encounter.
They don’t promise success, but are honest with parents about their child’s progress and whatever the final outcome, the child’s ability to tackle the tests, their confidence and their speed will grow. The teaching is child not results focused and feels very pastoral. Having said that their results are very good (though they’re too modest to boast) and they’re obtained in a way that never hot-houses the child.
They also also run intensive summer 11+ courses, run regular mock exams and offer coaching for Common Entrance.
