Gotta Have It
It's expensive, it bobbles and you can't machine wash it. But cashmere, I just can't quit you. Snuggle up and let me spin you a yarn about my new favourite label.
Blimey, is it still January? It’s cold, it’s dark and it’s boring so there’s only one thing for it – bring me cashmere and wrap me up like an Egyptian mummy, pronto.
My upper half is currently encased in this cosy, cheery, ’90s-esque number from cool Brit brand, Madeleine Thompson. Who doesn’t love a rainbow, right? Every time I’ve worn it, it’s garnered a compliment or three. And it reminds me of the tops I used to wear to sweaty indie discos circa 1996, although those ones certainly weren’t made of cashmere.
Pleasingly, the knitwear designer also has diffusion range for Next’s Label/Mix, with more wallet-friendly price points – this rainbow hoodie (above) is £99, although it’s soft merino rather than cashmere. You’ll be in good company – the always excellently attired Catastrophe star Sharon Horgan was photographed wearing a Madeleine Thompson rainbow lightning bolt jumper recently.
Need more? For a similar vibe (rainbows, lightning bolts), try Wyse, check out Gussy & Lou‘s neon-tipped sweaters and have a rootle around Needle‘s super sale. Elsewhere, Winser London‘s line is très chic or, for a more budget take, Uniqlo does the best on the high street from just £60. Top tip – go for the men’s jumpers as the cut is much better.
