Our pick of the most romantic, divine-to-the-tastebuds places to eat this Valentine's night

OK, so we’re being all cutesy and traditional here but, y’know, some of us have a hot date coming up (not me, obvs). So let’s bow to the big day of love and snoop out our fave places for a slap up dinner with the love of your life.

Cooking with Your Valentine, The Cookery School at Daylesford, Thurs 14 Feb

Share a love for cooking? This romantic cookery class is a great way to spend Valentine’s day. Accompanied by a tipple of your choice, join in on some cookery demonstrations and taste all of the delicious dishes created throughout the day. daylesford.com

Pop up at The Garden Café, Miserden Greenhouses, Thurs 14 Feb

It’s pop up crazy over at Miserden with The Garden Café hosting a series of foodie ventures for 2019. First off the blocks is chef Brett Mills, who heads up the kitchen at Soushi Cirencester, and will be taking over on 14 Feb. Or if you prefer something a little more traditional, Michelin trained pro chef Rory Baxter (he’s worked under Gordon Ramsey and Raymond Blanc) will berustling up some Brit classics with a modern twist on Thurs 14 and Fri 15 Mar. From £35, miserden.org

The Longs Arms, South Wraxall, nr Bradford-on-Avon

This beautiful country pub pub has been awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017, and won the gastropub award in the Bath Life Awards 2016. Meat is sourced from Aubrey Allen – an ethical, welfare friendly supplier, so that’s another big fat Muddy tick. They do a gorgeous Valentine pud. thelongsarms.com

Valentine’s Tasting Menu, Three Tuns Freehouse, Great Bedwyn, Thurs 14 Feb

The Three Tuns have organised something truly special to celebrate the most romantic day of the year. This masterfully crafted tasting menu will have your taste buds tingling, with a cosy fire and bottle of bubbly. In my book, a date like this would be an absolute treat. tunsfreehouse.com

Sheep on Sheep Street, Stow on the Wold

A super stylish makeover a couple of summers ago revamped the erstwhile Grapevine Hotel into the über chic offering that is today’s Sheep on Sheep Street. Transforming the knocked-through trio of 17th-century buildings into a funky inn with rooms that wouldn’t be out of place in André Balazs’s stable (he of Chiltern Firehouse fame) was bang on the money as Stow-on-the-Wold, one of the Cotswolds’ most Cotswoldy towns, grows its reputation for cool, indie shops and classy eateries. They’ve got some lovely rooms here if you, er, *cough*, feel like staying over.

Valentine Break, The Greenway Hotel & Spa, Shurdington, Thurs 14 Feb to Sun 17 Feb

This limited Valentine’s offer is not one to miss, all for £265 per room you get to spend a romantic night in a Superior double room, with full access to the Elan Spa facilities. You’ll feel truly spoilt with champagne and canapes on arrival and a five-course tasting menu. If that wasn’t enough, you’ll be woken up with a full English before you check out. thegreenwayhotelandspa.com

Valentine’s Day Tasting Menu, The Kings Hotel, Chipping Campden, Thurs 14 Feb to Sat 16 Feb

This six-course tasting menu is set in a truly beautiful location, perfect for celebrating Valentine’s day with your loved one. www.kingscampden.co.uk

Cotswold House Hotel, Chipping Camden

This boutique hotel in the extremely lovely market town of Chipping Campden is a bit of a gem with its stunning architecture – a row of four properties on the high street with a fabulous Regency edifice at the centre – fine-dining restaurant Fig, brasserie-style eatery Bistro On The Square and award-winning spa. It looks gorgeous inside and out and when it comes to service, well, you get treated like royalty! Go big this Valentine’s with dinner, a room, a spa…you know you’re worth it. bespokehotels.com/cotswoldhouse

The Looking Glass, Cheltenham

Check out this friendly little restaurant just a stone’s throw from the centre of Cheltenham, offering the freshest of fresh food in a seriously super-cool gaff. Since opening a few months ago, The Looking Glass has quickly become part of the local community, with food sourced locally as much as possible, and some even foraged from orchards and woods quite literally up the road. We reckon it’s the perfect place for lunch with the girls or even a date night. It’s high-end, high-quality food at a decent price. thelookingglasscheltenham.co.uk

The Little Pickle Pop Up, Manor Farm Buildings, Upper Slaughter, Fri 15 Feb

The Little Pickle host their first ever pop up with this one-off chance to try incredible food from the chefs who create the Cotswold’s most delicious chutneys. This five-course tasting menu combines gourmet flavour combinations and presentations with some long-loved family favourites. shop.thelittlepickle.co.uk

Valentines Night, Hillbrush, Mere, Fri 15 Feb

This specially crafted menu will be a romantic delight for any loved-up couple. The surprise dishes have been carefully selected to celebrate you and that special someone. www.visit.hillbrush.com

The Beckford Arms, Fonthill Gifford

A mere stiletto’s throw from Stonehenge and Salisbury, come to enjoy seasonal menus which can include everything from a traditional whole suckling pig to river Exe mussels. Wanna try one of their Beckford Bellinis – made with locally produced peach liqueur – on for size? www.beckfordarms.com

The Porch House, Stow on the Wold

England’s oldest inn is a handsome, Grade II listed, Cotswold stunner with parts dating from 947AD (I’m not kidding, this baby is seriously ancient, although fortunately not in a blue-rinse way) nestled in the heart of drop-dead gorgeous Stow-on-the-Wold. www.porch-house.co.uk

The Bybrook, Castle Combe, nr Bath

The Manor House is a five-star luxury country house hotel in the Cotswolds with Rob Potter, previously at Michelin starred Lucknam Park, in charge of The Bybrook restaurant since 2016. Walk off a gourmet lunch in the glorious grounds or picture postcard village – or maybe make a weekend of it? exclusive.co.uk/the-manor-house

The Dining Room at Whatley Manor, Malmesbury

Michelin’s Young European Chef of the Year 2018, Niall Keating, takes his inspiration from around the world including Korean, Japanese and French cuisine. £200 will get you the gastronomic tasting menu with matching wine. www.whatleymanor.com

The Park (at Lucknam Park Hotel), Colerne, nr  Bath

Stupendous 5-star country house hotel (it’s got a mile-long driveway) with a very posh dining room – no ripped jeans or trainers allowed in here – headed up by Hywel Jones. Michelin starred since 2006. www.lucknampark.co.uk

The Red Lion Free House, East Chisenbury

Another pub, another county. This time it’s a thatched country pub run by two chefs, just 15 mins drive from Stonehenge. Prix Fixe Weds–Fri lunch/Thurs & Fri dinner is especially good value.
