Foodie flash!!

Elasticated trousers on, here are the latest, greatest food happenings near you, as brought to you by the nosiest blogger around!

The Ivy Montpellier Brasserie, Cheltenham

bar at Cheltenham The Ivy Montpellier Brasserie

It was preview night at Cheltenham’s The Ivy Montpellier Brasserie last night and wow, they’ve served up a right blinder. A fabulous art deco cocktail of ocean-liner glamour and relaxed, let’s-have-a-laugh vibe, every detail from the resplendent circular bar down to the curvy side lamps is perfecto. Many champagne, gin and rose water cocktails were downed (apparently one doesn’t eat the rose petal, whoops), canapés snaffled (who knew sirloin steak could be a canapé? And ice-cream dipped in white chocolate – OMG!) and inhibitions shed as the crowd forgot about the icy weather and partied like bright, young things. Muddy returns for lunch on Thursday (15 December), so watch out for the review.

Camp Kitchen Pop-Up at Miserden Garden Café, Friday night feast

table set for dinner in 1920s greenhouse with candles, flowers at Miserden Nurseries

Quick, there’s still time to snaffle a table at The Camp Kitchen’s two-night culinary pop-up at Miserden’s dreamy greenhouse eaterie on Friday 15 December (Saturday all booked up now people). And husband-and-wife team Rory (Michelin-trained chef) and Sarah (home cook and dreamer upper of fab ideas) have given us a taster of what we can expect: pheasant consommé with leeks & hazelnut oil; braised short rib of beef with ox cheek, bay & garlic crowns; bread & butter pudding with mincemeat & custard; hot chocolate fondant. You salivating yet?! I’ll be there Saturday, so look out for my review and enjoy vicariously if you don’t make it this time. Then make sure you’re first in the queue to book the next one!

Sunday sizzler at The Prince Albert, Stroud

Need to warm up? ‘Course you do, it’s bloody freezing! Well, I’ve got just the place, as this Sunday (17 December) Rodborough’s coolest pub/music venue The Prince Albert is launching a Caribbean food pop-up. From 3pm, feast on Jamaica Inn Kitchen’s hot grub, wash it down with real ale and let your blood run warm! And if you’re still there at 8.30pm, you’ll be treated to the funky Ska sounds of the brilliantly name The Laerie Fairies.

New private dining room at The Wild Duck, Cirencester

The Wild Duck

Gather 13 of your besties and get yourself booked into the trad Cotswold inn’s newly refurbished Grouse Room where a massive, stripped-back oak table, wood-panelled walls and relaxed atmosphere will make you feel right at home and the menu – think Brixham plaice with brown shrimps, Gloucester Old Pot pork chops and honeycomb pnnacotta – will make you feel like you’ve died and gone to Sunday lunch heaven.
