Wouldn't you though?
We're full of the joys of Spring here at Muddy. Why, you ask? We've spritzed the office and everyone in it with this zingy, sunshiny, delicious new fragrance from natural beauty brand Neom.

There’s a whole lot going on this week, as Cheltenham Race week kicks off. Also on the menu – macaroons, kitchen sink drama and a wine and cheese movie night.

Back in the day, if you wanted to tie your street cred to a band, it didn’t get much cooler than Joy Division and its later incarnation New Order.
Today is International Women’s Day and this year’s theme is all about forging a more inclusive, gender equal working world (#BeBoldForChange). To which we at Muddy say: hell yeah! To mark the occasion, we’ve picked our favourite trail-blazing, commotion-causing women from the creative industries. Ladies, we salute you and your wonderful work…
Happy St David’s Day! Happy Spring! Happy first day of the month! And happy days to one very lucky Muddy reader who is about to float off with a luxury weekend at Another Place The Lakes in Ulswater, The Lake District.
Thousands of you entered this one – I guess everyone needs a holiday! – but the winner is (*drum roll*)…
Congratulations to you lady.
I’ve just read Jilly Cooper’s Mount and, E.L. James, pah!, but, as well as all the exciting between-the-sheets shenanigans (nice to see you again Rupert), the riding bit was pretty great too. Which got me thinking, we are in Gloucestershire, home of royal and Olympic riding supremo Zara Phillips (and Jilly too!), and Cheltenham Race Week is round the corner, so why not saddle up and go for a ride? Sounds a bit less exhausting than a run, but it’s still exercise you know (core, quads, hamstrings, glutes, all engaged). Here are a few of the county’s best stables.
February’s over, there’s a sniff of spring in the air (just don’t look at the forecast), let’s go out and have some fun. In this week’s guide there’s singing, dancing, cycling that feels like dancing, fine dining, art, an International Women’s Day meditation (*om*) and more.
Rebel Soul Music Club, The Retreat, Cheltenham, Thu 2 March
Feeling inspired by The Voice and reckon you’ve got one on you?
Tonight, I will be downing tools, turning off my phone, and commandeering the sofa, remote and wine from 9pm – 11pm as not one, but two, fantastic TV shows arrive on the small screen.
First up, at 9pm on BBC1 is The Replacement, a three-part thriller. Muddy editor-in-chief Hero was lucky enough to go to a preview screening of the first episode and reports that it is edge-of-your seat stuff.
As you might just have noticed, last night was the 89th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. The movie industry’s finest got glammed up, came, saw and conquered… or, at least, thought they’d conquered but then realized someone had a made a humdinger of a boo-boo (more of which shortly). No time to read up extensively on the finer detail of the biggest, glitziest night on the showbiz calendar? Ta-da – here’s Muddy’s two-minute Oscars digest…
Someone had a very bad day at the office.
One of the big benefits of Muddy tottering its way into so many counties (er, 17 since you asked!) is that we have a raft of on-the-ground experts, squirrelling out the coolest, most useful stuff for the rest of us to plunder. Case in point – beach cottages. Thought about renting one this summer? Yeah me too. So allow me to lay before you a sandy smorgasbord from the Muddy regional editors – 14 beautiful beach properties for the bucket and spade brigade.
I usually feel a bit unprepared for Shrove Tuesday, it’s not a day of the week when I feel switched on to culinary creations, but this year I’m going to wow the mudlets with something really special (which after last year’s tortilla wraps shouldn’t be hard). I recently had a drool at the menu at The Malthouse Bar & Kitchen in Stroud after visiting the antiques emporium next door (review to follow) and was loving the sound of buttermilk pancakes with smoky bacon and maple syrup, so I got in touch with head chef Ryan King, who kindly agreed to share this very scrumptious sounding recipe for red velvet (I know! I love the cake too!) pancakes.
If you were holding auditions for a pub-cum-sophisticated-eaterie, the kind of place that walking boots or stilettos (muddy or otherwise) would be equally welcome, where you could casually grab lunch or fine dine for a special occasion, then The Porch House in Stow-on-the-Wold would definitely stand out in casting. For this award-winning inn, restaurant and boutique hotel has all the good looks and charisma of a bona fide screen star. And it’s got history, dating back to the 10th century, no less, which makes it a contender for the oldest inn in England.
