16 Mar 2017

We’re halfway through Race Week – and here are the runners and the riders for a good time for the week ahead, from a St Patrick’s Day at the races (and night at the bar) to middle-aged laughs and Shakesperian tragedy.

Made By Bob, Cirencester

15 Mar 2017

Walk through the glass doors of Made By Bob in Cirencester and you walk into another world – not the quiet, genteel world of a Cotswold market town, oh no! These doors open into an altogether buzzier, more urban world, which makes you feel as if, like Alice in Wonderland, you’ve drunk a magic potion and been transported in a heartbeat to a funky brasserie in Chelsea.

Located in the Corn Hall arcade, Made By Bob, which opened in 2008, but recently underwent a fab new renovation with a denim blue colour scheme blending perfectly with its low-beamed ceiling and windowed archways, is the place to lunch in Cirencester.

For this award-winning inn, restaurant and boutique hotel has all the good looks and charisma of a bona fide screen star. And it’s got history, dating back to the 10th century, no less, which makes it a contender for the oldest inn in England.

Cool Scandi coffee shop in Cheltenham

7 Feb 2017

Ever since Tyler Brûlé first showcased oh-so-cool Scandinavian style inside the pages of Wallpaper* back in the dotcom 1990s, the love-in with the region’s sleek, modernist interiors has just kept growing and growing. But I never knew the Scandis had coffee totally nailed too! And where did I discover this? Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo? No, Cheltenham! Tucked away in Royal Well Place, a mere skip away from the town’s best shopping strip The Promenade, is The Scandinavian Coffee Pod which looks great on the outside, even better on the inside and serves the most incredible coffee.

6 of the best walks and pubs

30 Jan 2017

There’s something about a walk and pub combo in winter that makes you feel both virtuous (without the need for Lycra) and cossetted (that’s the pub bit obv). And in Gloucestershire, we’re utterly spoilt for choice. This list but scratches the surface of great rambling and public house pairings; I’ve tried to cover a few geographical bases here and no doubt you’ve got your own favorites, which the muddy hound (here he is on the scent of a good pub) and I would be more than happy to check out, so do get in touch.
