Stop press: style masterclass, champagne included!
Phew, after a month of meeting the inscrutable gazes of catwalk models just about everywhere – in print, online, all over Instagram – the autumn winter 2017 shows are finally over and we can get back to business as usual. But while the sight of these preternaturally beautiful women strutting down the runway can seem pretty far removed from real life – and it’s easy to ridicule some of the out-there stuff designers dream up (Comme des Garçons fat suits anyone?) – fashion nevertheless touches us all and can have a big impact on our lives from how we feel and interact with people to how we work and succeed.
Personal stylist Melanie Brewer has gone deep into the psychology of dressing, uncovering how our clothes affect the way others respond to us. Did you know that choosing the right outfit can reduce depression and anxiety (ever felt inappropriately dressed? how bad does that feel?), dressing ‘like a boss’ can win you a promotion and donning the right shade can boost your chances of success? So, it seems, investing in your style is a damn good use of time and energy. And if you can do it in the chic surroundings of a country house hotel and spa with a glass of champagne in hand, all the better!
On Thursday 23 March, Melanie will be hosting a one-off style clinic in the chic surroundings of Whatley Manor near Malmesbury. The day kicks off with coffee and pastries at 10.30am, with Melanie’s masterclass following at 11am. Then it’s on to that glass of champagne and a two-course lunch at Grey’s Brasserie, Whatley Manor’s Swiss chalet-style brasserie headed up by new executive chef Niall Keating.
Even if you feel pretty fashion-savvy, it’s a great opportunity to get advice on how to incorporate the latest looks into your style and tszuj up your wardrobe. And if you’re embarking on a new career, well, this could help you sew up a stylish new workwear look in a flash. Either way, it sounds like the perfect me-time kind of way to spend half a day, and, if you’ve got the afternoon to yourself too, there’s a rather tempting-looking spa that you could while away a few hours in. After all, you’ll need to gather your energy for that shopping trip you’ll be wanting to go on…
